Well, if the question was what sculpture I would pick, it would nearly be a tie between the Nike of Samothrace and the Pieta by Michelangelo. But paintings are more difficult. When taking a humanities class in college, I particularly preferred the Italian Baroque period, so I will choose from that…. (drumroll please)… The Conversion of Saint Paul by Caravaggio. I am a fan of tenebrism and I love the story of Paul in the New Testament. I consider him one of the greats, as most Bible-readers do, simply because he never gave less than his all. If he was doing great, he didn’t slack off. If he was down in the dumps, he didn’t give up. He praised the Lord throughout all circumstances, and I believe this painting does a good job of showing the awestruckness of an encounter with Christ.
