If you could make a film from any book never produced as a film, what book would you pick?
It seems as though the author of these saved the most difficult questions for the end…..
Well, my first pick would be The Shack by Wm. Paul Young, but I believe that is currently in production as a film, so I suppose that’s out….
Deception by Randy Alcorn and The Veritas Conflict by Shaunti Feldhan are also both great books, and yet as action-packed as they are, there is much going on just inside the main characters’ heads that I think a film would be difficult without narration.
So I will slightly cheat and choose a trilogy: The Circle Trilogy by Ted Dekker. It’s got science, action, fantasy, modern-day drama, talking bats, romance, beauty, and a subplot that parallels Christ. Oh and did I mention magic pools, sword fights, and epic battles against deadly diseases? Yeah it’s pretty great.
I make this one stipulation though: whoever was involved in making the movies based of his books Three and House (the latter co-authored by Frank Peretti) is not allowed to have anything to do with this project. No offense, but find a bigger budget next time please. I would like to see what the Kendrick brothers and/or Peter Jackson could do with it.
P. S. I’m excluding the 4th book, “Book 0: Green” from this set because I believe it to be unnecessary and a bit contrived. Leave it with the original 3.
