“Love that does not renew itself every day becomes a habit and in turn a slavery.” –Khalil Gibran
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” –Romans 12:2
What most people miss about Christianity, is that it isn’t a religion, it is a relationship with Christ. Like any relationship, it is subject to periods of trial and testing. Inevitable though these may be, they do not have to be victorious in your life. If you get “back to the basics” every day, back to the love that you shared with Him at the beginning of your relationship, remembering all the kindness He has shown you, His faithfulness and mercy and unending love, then you will weather the times that you are tempted away from Him with much more peace and success than if you let the relationship stagnate. Likewise, if you do the same with the people in your life whom you love, or have loved before, God will bless those relationships. “Blessed are the peacemakers.” –Matthew 5.
“I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked men, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first… He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.” –Revelation 2:2-5, 7
