So, I had a totally different song picked out for this morning, but this one has just kept playing itself over and over in my head since I heard it at church a couple weeks ago. This morning, I decided to pop on a podcast from Bethel Atlanta and I listened to Banning Liebscher talk about “The Process.” In a paraphrase, it’s the non-linear step-by-step journey that the Lord takes you on to get you from the point at which you receive His vision to the point at which that vision becomes reality. I cried twice (which says something), because it was just what I needed to hear.
“If you’re afraid to throw yourself into what the Lord has you doing right now, it’s because you don’t trust God with [the vision] that’s in your heart.”
Listen folks, we’re all at one point in the process or another. Maybe you have this awesome vision for how God is going to use you for His glory, but He’s telling you to wait for some indeterminate length of time. What do you do until then? We need to serve Him where we are, not just going through the motions or halfheartedly doing what He’s placed in front of us out of obligation. We need to give ourselves to whatever ministry (another word for work sometimes) He has us in now. Give ourselves completely.
His master replied, ‘Excellent! You are a good and faithful servant! You’ve been faithful over a little. I’ll put you in charge of much. Come, celebrate with me.’ –Matthew 25:21 (CEB)
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. –Colossians 3:23-24
The test is this: Can we look at our situation, knowing it’s not where we want to be, not ultimately where God has called us to be, and admit to ourselves that it’s a stage we have to go through to reach our destiny? Can we look at God in the midst of all our frustration and say, “Nevertheless, the name of the Lord be praised,”? When He puts a hold on our dreams, even the dreams He gave us, can we still look at Him and from our hearts say, “You’re beautiful,”?
I see Your face in every sunrise
The colors of the morning are inside Your eyes
The world awakens in the light of the day
I look up to the sky and say
I see Your power in the moonlit night
Where planets are in motion and galaxies are bright
We are amazed in the light of the stars
It’s all proclaiming who You are
I see You there hanging on a tree
You bled and then you died and then you rose again for me
Now You are sitting on Your heavenly throne
Soon we will be coming home
When we arrive at eternity’s shore
Where death is just a memory and tears are no more
We’ll enter in as the wedding bells ring
Your bride will come together and we’ll sing
I see Your face, I see Your face
I see Your face, You’re beautiful
