Recently I discovered a mobile app for Voice of the Martyrs which sends you daily prayer prompts from their 2014 prayer calendar. It also has tabs for information on the featured country of the day, and for recent news articles detailing persecution of Christians around the world. I recommend it to anyone who wants to build or maintain a greater awareness of and concern for our suffering brothers and sisters worldwide.
Today the request is for new converts in Afghanistan.
Dear Heavenly Father,
You know the needs and concerns of Your people. You know their thoughts as they huddle to worship in secret, their fear as they hide their faith from their young children whose knowledge would jeopardize their safety. I ask that You would bring peace to them as they seek to please You and honor You in a world where Your name is profane. I pray that You would help them to glorify You by filling them up with confidence and boldness to share Your love and hope with those around them, their family and neighbors and co-workers. I pray that You would protect them in their faithfulness to You and give them joy at the remembrance of the martyrs before them who suffered as they do.
I thank You for showing Yourself to them and for blessing them with Your presence and Your salvation. I thank You for Your promises to always be with them even in their darkest moments when it is often impossible to feel You there. I pray that You would continually bring to their remembrance Your character, Your promises, the truth of Your Word. I pray that You would teach them to write it on their hearts so that they would not sin against You or be ashamed of Your name. Grant them wisdom and direction and boldness.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
